A Key To a Stronger Wellington Community

The Village Goldsmith and Wellington City Mission collaborated to raise fund to complete Whakamaru

A bold project is underway to reshape the support and care available to the Wellington community. Whakamaru will be Wellington City Mission’s (WCM) new purpose-built headquarters slated to open in late 2024. It will be a hub of life-changing support - including housing, a public laundry and showers, a medical centre, social supermarket and a café. Many of these facilities will be provided by WCM at no or limited cost to those in the community who need it.

When The Village Goldsmith was approached with the idea to create a collection of bespoke key pendants to support fundraising for Whakamaru, we jumped into action. An original series of limited edition keys inspired by the ornate look of an antique barrel key was designed by our creative team to symbolise this transformational project. The collection included 100x sterling silver keys, 20x 18ct yellow gold keys, a single diamond-set gold key and one stunning, platinum, diamond-set key. Each key was finely engraved with Wellington City Mission on the back of the pendant to commemorate the wearer’s support of Whakamaru and the Kaupapa it stands for.

Our team was delighted to contribute to such a meaningful project for our community and to donate our time and the silver keys to help raise funds for our neighbours. The limited edition key pendants were released at an intimate fundraising event at the Gazley showroom where almost 200 generous Wellingtonians came out to support City Mission's Whakamaru project by purchasing these special key pendants. We are pleased to share the fundraising auction event successfully raised $100,000 to help fund Whakamaru.
