The Tāne pendant was inspired by the Māori Legend of Tāne. Tāne, god of forests and birds, decided to separate his parents, Papatuanuku, the Earth mother, and Ranginui, the Sky father, who were in a tight embrace causing nothing but darkness. The pendant and its elongated design represent Tāne and his siblings’ journey of separating their parents to reveal the light, thus creating Earth.
2018 Te Puna Foundation Sufferage 125 Jewellery Collection
A Village Goldsmith Collaboration
As part of the celebrations 125 years on from winning the right for NZ women to vote, Te Puna Foundation - the independent charity established to support the National Library - invited The Village Goldsmith to design a pin, pendant and earrings to pay tribute to this achievement. The 1893 Women's Suffrage Petition is on display as part of the permanent multi-award winning He Tohu exhibition at the National Library of New Zealand in Wellington.
2016 Dan Carter Collaboration for Charity
After Dan Carter played his 100th test game for the All Blacks, he designed a limited collector’s edition boot to celebrate the achievement. Named the DC100, only 100 pairs of these custom gold and red coloured, size 11 boots were made. Our creative team was inspired to handcraft a pair of 9 carat gold miniature rugby boots to be worn as a pendant. We added a Village Goldsmith touch by putting diamonds in the soles.
We then collaborated with Dan to raise donations for The iSPORT Foundation, of which Dan Carter is a founding member and ambassador. We drew a winner of the pendant with 100% of donations going to help young Kiwis fulfil their dreams just like Dan did.

2016 MJSA Vision Awards
Winner of 2nd Place Professional Design Excellence
When we came into possession of a 232 carat, natural blue, triangular cabochon topaz, we knew it was destined for a magnificent piece of jewellery. When one of the team described it as if you’re looking into a swirling ocean filled with all sorts of wonders, the story of Maui fishing up the North Island sprang to Ian’s mind. The topaz became a symbol of that story and the design grew from there.
