ECC NZ Student Craft and Design Awards
Friends of The Dowse offer their support to New Zealand University students with the ECC New Zealand Design and Craft Awards. Designed to encourage innovation and creativity in design and craft.
Friends of The Dowse present this competition to provide an opportunity for students to step into creative industries with a coveted award to their name, as well as gain financial assistance for their future endeavours.
The Village Goldsmith takes pride in supporting the creative talents of emerging young designers. Being a supporter of the ECC Design awards allows us the opportunity to celebrate these very people. Our creative director and founder, Ian Douglas, will be judging the Jewellery Design award again this year.
The Village Goldsmith is proud to sponsor the ECC NZ Student Craft / Design Awards. The awards foster creativity and innovation, and provide a valuable platform for students to showcase their talents in a manner that challenges their normal boundaries. The growth and protection of creativity and intellectual property is crucial to the future growth of our country, and the awards are an important tool in furthering that outlook. Ian says, "I was inspired being around other creative individuals whose passion for their own craft shone through, and also how their appreciation for design and craft covered all the media".
The Village Goldsmith are working along side other talented New Zealand designers and businesses, ECC, Designtree, Urbis, Rembrandt and Phil&Teds, to support and judge the awards for 2017.
These talented businesses are top in their fields of Lighting Design, Furniture and Product Design, Ceramics and Textile & Fashion.
Ian judged the awards in 2016 and is honoured to be judging alongside these talented designers. He looks forward to seeing the unique jewellery designs presented for 2017.
